What is Rick Harrison’s net worth?

An American business owner and reality television personality, Rick Harrison boasts a net worth of $9 million. He belongs to the Harrison family, proprietors of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop situated in Las Vegas, Nevada. The family gained widespread recognition through the reality TV show “Pawn Stars,” which chronicles the amusing events that unfold at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.

Early Life

Born Richard Kevin Harrison on March 22, 1965, in Lexington, North Carolina, he is the child of Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr. and Joanne Harrison. As the third child, he has an older sister named Sherry who passed away at six years old, an older brother, Joseph, and a younger brother, Chris. His father served in the U.S. Navy. When he turned two, his family moved to San Diego due to his father’s transfer. Harrison began experiencing epileptic seizures at eight, which often left him bedridden but also sparked a lasting passion for reading. He attended Taft Middle School in San Diego but dropped out in his sophomore year to focus on his venture of selling counterfeit Gucci bags for $2,000 a week. In April 1981, the Harrison family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Career

After establishing themselves in Las Vegas, Harrison’s father launched his first secondhand shop in 1981. The initial Gold & Silver Coin Shop was a modest 300-square-foot establishment located on Las Vegas Boulevard. During the day, Harrison worked in the shop, while at night, he repossessed vehicles. In 1986, the shop moved to a more spacious location in downtown Las Vegas. Sadly, by 1988, the Harrisons lost their lease on that site and relocated to a new commercial building on Las Vegas Boulevard. He and his father had discussed transforming the coin shop into a pawn shop for years, feeling it was the natural progression for their business. However, they faced challenges due to a Las Vegas law from 1955 limiting the issuance of new pawn shop licenses based on the city’s population. By 1988, Las Vegas had a population exceeding 640,000 in the greater metro area. To secure one of the few available pawn licenses, Harrison contacted the city’s statistician weekly until the population reached the new threshold, which occurred in 1989, allowing the Harrisons to obtain their license. That same year, they opened the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop near the Las Vegas Strip, co-owning it until his father’s passing in 2018.

By 2005, Harrison and his father were lending approximately $3 million annually, generating around $700,000 in income from interest. By 2006, the pawnshop gained notoriety for its unique sports memorabilia and became a go-to place for gamblers needing quick cash.

After his shop was featured in a 2001 PBS documentary and on the Comedy Central series Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003, Harrison spent four years pitching the idea of a television show centered around his pawnshop. The concept circulated through HBO and YouTube before the History Channel picked it up and developed it into Pawn Stars, now recognized as the top-rated show on the network. Premiering in July 2009, Pawn Stars has aired for 21 seasons and 633 episodes as of June 2023, firmly establishing itself as the number one show on The History Channel. So significant is its popularity that the network regularly renews it in batches of 80 episodes, a rather uncommon occurrence.

Currently, Corey Harrison, Rick’s son, is also part of the store team and appears on the show together with his childhood friend Austin “Chumlee” Russell. On the show, Rick is known by the nickname “The Spotter,” a nod to his exceptional ability to identify undervalued items.

Personal Life

At the age of 17, Harrison’s girlfriend Kim became pregnant. Although they experienced a miscarriage, the couple chose to marry. Their first child, Corey, arrived on April 27, 1983, and two years later, they welcomed their second child, Adam. Following Adam’s birth, Harrison and Kim ended their marriage.

Nine months later, Harrison met Tracy on a blind double date, who would later become his second wife. After six months of dating, they cohabited, and eight months later, they tied the knot and took on the responsibility of raising Corey and Adam together. Eventually, they divorced.

In 2012, following two divorces, Harrison became engaged to Deanna Burditt, who had also been divorced twice. The couple married on July 21, 2013, in Laguna Beach, California, but divorced in September 2020. In 2021, Harrison married Amanda Palmer.

Rick Harrison has demonstrated interest in political affairs, contemplating a gubernatorial run in Nevada in 2022 and considering a U.S. Senate run in 2024.

Lawsuit

After the passing of Richard Harrison, known as “The Old Man,” in 2018, Rick’s mother, Joanne, initiated a lawsuit regarding a dispute over familial assets and the ownership of their Las Vegas pawn shop. The suit claims that Rick had Joanne sign over her 51% ownership of the business while she was hospitalized in 2000/2001. The lawsuit asserts that upon Richard’s death in 2018, Joanne inherited his 49% share of the pawn shop, yet Rick allegedly has not provided her with complete financial documentation. Joanne further claims she has been unable to obtain a full accounting of over $500,000 in cash and silver that she believes her husband amassed before his death. She is pursuing unspecified damages, an accounting of assets, and a court decree that would prohibit Rick Harrison from utilizing her funds, along with a “constructive trust” claim on her property.

Real Estate

In 2019, Harrison put his Red Rock Country Clubhouse in Summerlin, Las Vegas, on the market for $3.99 million. The property, covering 8,845 square feet, was constructed in 2001. He purchased the house in 2016 and invested approximately $600,000 in renovations. The formal sitting room features granite flooring that has been acid-washed, prepared into planks, and laid out like hardwood at a cost of $45,000. The house includes two bedrooms on the lower level and two upstairs, as well as a gym that can serve as an additional bedroom. There are seven bathrooms, a 12-seat home theater equipped with a 150-inch screen and a curtain, and a wine cellar that accommodates over 1,000 bottles. An elevator provides access, and a central sound system allows music to be played from any room via a phone.

The front of the home overlooks the Spring Mountains of Red Rock Canyon, while the backyard features views of the Strip and the Arroyo Golf Club. The upstairs game room has a balcony at the rear, and the backyard showcases a lagoon-style pool, an elevated spa, and a gate that leads to the golf course. Enhancing the outdoor space is a 10-foot waterfall and a lazy river flowing into the pool, along with an outdoor kitchen. Harrison selected the neighborhood due to their children attending school in the area, but now that the kids are grown, the space is no longer needed.
