What is Bow Wow’s Net Worth?

With a net worth of $1.5 million, Bow Wow, an American rapper and actor, achieved significant recognition in the music industry after releasing his debut album at just 13 years old, then known as “Lil’ Bow Wow.” Following his musical success, he decided to pursue a career in acting.

In July 2011, Bow Wow confirmed he had a daughter named Shai with his ex-girlfriend, after months of speculation. During a court hearing in October 2012 concerning child support issues, Bow Wow disclosed his income to the judge, stating that he was earning only $4,000 a month and had $1,500 in his checking account. He was subsequently ordered to pay $11,500 in back child support, along with a monthly payment of $3,000 thereafter.

Earlier, in 2010, TMZ reported that Bow Wow owed more than $90,000 in taxes to the IRS. In addition, it was revealed that he had various luxury vehicles, including a $200,000 Bentley and a $220,000 Ferrari, repossessed by creditors. TMZ also asserted that he still had $280,000 outstanding to a luxury car leasing firm.

Early Life

Shad Gregory Moss, known as Bow Wow, was born on March 9, 1987, in Columbus, Ohio. By the age of six, he was already composing his own raps under the moniker “Kid Gangsta.” Influences on his early life included groups such as N.W.A. During this period, Bow Wow had the opportunity to perform live in Los Angeles, where Snoop Dogg witnessed his talent. Impressed by the young rapper’s performance, Snoop Dogg later met with him and gave him the name “Lil’ Bow Wow,” which became his stage identity.

Career

At that time, Snoop Dogg had not yet released his debut album and invited Lil’ Bow Wow to contribute to a track on it. The album, entitled “Doggystyle,” debuted in late 1993 and featured Lil’ Bow Wow on the song “Gz and Hustlas,” marking his first foray into professional music. Later that year, he also made an appearance on “The Arsenio Hall Show,” which helped boost his visibility.

Five years later, Lil’ Bow Wow encountered Jermaine Dupri, a producer who took a special interest in refining the 11-year-old rapper’s talent. After creating a track for the soundtrack of “Wild Wild West” in 1999, Lil’ Bow Wow prepared to launch his debut album at the age of 13 in 2000. Titled “Beware of the Dog,” the album included popular songs such as “Bounce With Me” and “Bow Wow,” the latter featuring Snoop Dogg and topping rap charts, strengthening their collaboration. The album was a commercial success, selling over 2 million copies in its first year and eventually achieving platinum status with total sales exceeding 3 million copies.

In 2002, Lil’ Bow Wow made two significant changes: He rebranded himself as “Bow Wow” and released his sophomore album, “Doggy Bag.” He explained that the decision to drop the “Lil” stemmed from the influx of “Lil” rappers and his own sense of maturation. “Doggy Bag” was well-received, reaching number eleven on the Billboard 200 chart and garnering another platinum certification. The album featured tracks like “Take Ya Home,” and another notable single released that year was “Basketball,” which was included on the “Like Mike” soundtrack.

In 2003, the album “Unleashed” was released by Bow Wow, which included collaborations with artists like Birdman, Mario, and Amerie. Although it received mixed feedback, the album achieved a peak position of number three on the Billboard Top 200 and sold 129,000 copies in its opening week. Bow Wow followed up with “Wanted” in 2005, which also featured a range of collaborating artists, including Omarion. Similar to “Unleashed,” “Wanted” debuted at number three on the Billboard Top 200 and had first-week sales of 120,000 units. Soon after, “The Price of Fame” was released in 2006, showcasing collaborations with Chris Brown and T-Pain. This album entered the Billboard Top 200 at number six and impressively sold 262,000 units in its first week.

After partnering with Omarion for a collaborative album in 2007, Bow Wow put out “New Jack City II” in 2009. This album marked Bow Wow’s first to carry a parental advisory label, addressing themes such as drug use. That same year, he signed with Cash Money Records, marking what would become a challenging turn in his musical career. Throughout the following years, although he lent his vocals to other artists’ tracks and released mixtapes, he consistently delayed the announcement of his next album, which ultimately never materialized. Eventually, Bow Wow reverted to his birth name, Shad Moss, and departed Cash Money Records without releasing an album under their label.

Later on, after signing with P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records, Bow Wow announced his intention to retire from rap following the release of one last album, titled “NYLTH.” As of May 2023, fans expressed disappointment at the continued absence of the album. Nonetheless, Shad Moss did collaborate with Soulja Boy on a mixtape back in 2016.

Acting/Hosting Career

A significant factor behind Bow Wow’s decision to step back from music was his increasing focus on his acting and hosting career. Nevertheless, he had been active in acting since his music career’s early days, making his debut in the 2002 film “Like Mike.” One of his standout performances was in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” He has also appeared in various television shows, including “Smallville” and “Entourage,” and reprised his role as Twinkie in 2021’s “F9.”

Additionally, Bow Wow has built a considerable career as a TV personality and host. In 2013, he took on the role of host for BET’s “106 and Park,” which was canceled in 2014. Then, in 2016, Bow Wow began hosting “RnB Friday Nights,” an Australian television program.

Personal Life

Bow Wow was once engaged to Erica Mena and is a father to a daughter named Shai Moss, whom he shares with Joie Chavis. He resides in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside his mother.
